What can make a customer experience better? The environment. CJ & Associates recently refreshed the showroom and service waiting area at Lynch Chevrolet GMC of Burlington with one goal in mind: to create a more comfortable, welcoming space for customers and employees. And that’s exactly what we did.

Showroom Refresh for Lynch Chevrolet GMC of Burlington

Purchasing a vehicle can be exciting. It can also come with a little hesitation, plenty of questions, and more time at the dealership than you may have anticipated. The people guiding you through that process make a big difference. But so does the environment where it all takes place.

When Lynch Chevrolet GMC of Burlington connected with CJ & Associates through one of our architect partners, they had a clear goal: create a space that offered customers a better experience, whether they were purchasing a new vehicle or having their current one serviced. How could the environment help make their time at the dealership more comfortable and the process a little easier for everyone involved?

The dealership had plenty of space, but its outdated furniture and existing layout didn’t support the sales and service experience as well as they could. Customers needed comfortable places to meet, complete paperwork, or relax between steps in the buying process. Those waiting for service needed options for how to spend their time, sometimes for several hours.

The Lynch team wanted guidance on how to bring those needs together. Our work began by taking a closer look at the people using the space.

Understanding Experience Before Design

The CJ & Associates team met with the Lynch team to understand their goals and explore how the dealership could work better for customers and employees alike.

Together, we walked through the customer’s path, from an initial sales conversation through the steps of purchasing a vehicle. We considered the service visit with the same attention.

Where were people meeting? Where were they waiting? How long did each part of the process take? When was privacy important, and when would a more relaxed, open setting be appropriate?

For someone waiting for vehicle maintenance, leaving and coming back later isn’t always an option. They may need to keep working, plug in a laptop, or bring their children along.

We also considered the employees guiding customers through those experiences. The layout needed to support their conversations and daily responsibilities, particularly when several customer conversations were happening at once, while preserving enough showroom space to display vehicles.

Making Customers More Comfortable, From Sales to Service

For customers waiting on service, a comfortable place to settle in can make a difference in their day. We introduced booths with convenient access to power for those who need to keep working, high tables, and lounge seating for those who want to relax or sit with family. Updated carpeting helped bring a fresh, inviting feel to the area.

For customers purchasing a vehicle, we created two meeting settings to accommodate different stages of the conversation. A more private conference setting with technology provides space to review details and complete paperwork, while an open lounge meeting area offers a relaxed place to talk through options while staying connected to the showroom.

Visibility was also part of the planning. The Lynch team wanted customers to get a sense of the experience ahead by seeing activity in designated meeting areas without interrupting another conversation. The design considered how to balance that openness with the need for privacy.

Furniture Selected for the Lynch Showroom Design

Each selection supported a specific part of that experience, bringing together the needs of the dealership with a fresh, inviting look.

Teknion WithIn Architectural Structures helped establish defined meeting areas within the large showroom. These settings gave the Lynch team options for customer conversations while bringing a more approachable scale to the space. The elevated look and feel of these architectural walls gave an updated, sophisticated look to the interior.

Teknion Banqs Booth Seating created comfortable semi-private workstations where customers could relax during their visit. Paired with convenient access to power, the booths offer a place to open a laptop and keep working while their vehicle is serviced.

OFS Raya Lounge Seating offered a relaxed seating option in the service area, giving customers a comfortable place to spend time when their visit required a longer stay.

Global Drift Swivel Lounge Seating added another choice within the service waiting area. Swivel seating allows customers to adjust their position for a conversation or turn their attention toward the activity around them.

Studio TK Rec Tables gave customers a spacious high table for working or sitting together.

Arcadia Hexadecimal Planters brought biophilia greenery into the design, softening the appearance of the showroom and adding warmth around the furniture and architectural elements.

JSI Connect Modular Lounge Seating, arranged as an S-shaped sofa, introduced a curved form into the furniture plan. Its modern shape added visual interest and created another comfortable seating option in the open interior.

Considering the Whole Environment

Comfort also meant looking beyond the furniture. With tall ceilings throughout the dealership, acoustic baffles above community areas were included to help manage sound.

Lynch’s awards received special attention, too. The team wanted a prominent place to display the recognition they had earned. Dedicated displays made those achievements part of the customer’s introduction to the dealership’s story, offering a visible reminder of its experience and professional credibility.

And the space had another important responsibility: welcoming the community for regular events and activities.

Lynch hosts on-site events that can bring as many as 500 people into the dealership. Our planning team considered how the showroom could easily transition for those gatherings, with a furniture layout that supported everyday sales and service needs alongside its use as an event space.

What Does Your Environment Add to Your Experience?

A recent customer Google review for the Lynch Dealership in Burlington begins with, “Awesome environment.”

Those two words speak to exactly what the Lynch and CJ teams set out to create. Customers may never know the thought behind the furniture selections or the layout, but they know how it feels to spend time there, a feeling that becomes part of their experience with the business.

When you look at your own customer experience, take a moment to consider the environment where it happens. Does it make people comfortable? Does it support the employees serving them? Could a different layout, more seating choices, or a private place to meet make someone’s visit a little easier?

Every industry brings different needs, but there is value in asking many of those same questions. As the Lynch project illustrates, making strategic updates to your existing space can address several needs that affect both customers and employees using the space.

Our CJ team can help you see those opportunities in your own space. We’ll take the time to understand how your business works, offer recommendations, and create a plan around the people who spend their time there. We’ve been helping businesses do just that for more than 42 years, and we’d love to help you.
